There are multiple states that participate in the Hope Scholarship, which is awarded to students showing academic excellence. Each state has their own specific requirements and eligibility guidelines, so it’s important to review your specific state’s guidelines.
The Hope Scholarship is an academic based scholarship. Each state requires students to meet a minimum grade point average and have achieved academic excellence. The Hope Scholarship is a great way to fund your education, since all money received through this scholarship program does not have to be paid back to the respective states.

The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) was created by the Tennessee General Assembly in 1974 as a non-profit corporation with the merging of the Tennessee Educational Loan Corporation and the Tennessee Tuition Grant Program. TSAC is the administrative board that oversees all application reviews and award distributions.
The HOPE lottery scholarship provides a tremendous opportunity for all students to earn continued support from the state for education beyond high school. In Tennessee’s quest to attain higher levels of educational attainment, developing the “reason why” behind the lottery scholarships is an important area of focus for school leaders, students, and families.
Georgia Hope Scholarship
The HOPE Scholarship Program (Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally) was created in 1993 under the supervision of Georgia Governor Zell Miller, is a merit based higher educational scholarship that is funded entirely by the revenue from the Georgia Lottery, and is administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC). As of 2009, more than $500 billion in scholarships had been awarded to more than 212,000 Georgia students
The program is entirely merit-based, meaning that a student's ability to pay for his or her own education is not a factor in determining if he or she receives it. Previously, there was a cap of $100,000 dollars of income for the parents of traditional-college-age students.
The South Carolina HOPE Scholarship Program was established under the SC Education Lottery Act approved by the General Assembly during the 2001 legislative session. The program is a merit-based scholarship created for students attending a four-year institution who do not qualify for the LIFE or Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded during the freshman year of attendance only. Funding for the program is included in the annual appropriation to the Commission on Higher Education and will be dependent upon the annual proceeds generated by the SC Education Lottery.
